I took this series of photos at a draft board demonstration at 201 Varick Street in lower Manhattan on March 19, 1970. A New York Times article of March 20, 1970 states that 500 took part and 180 people were arrested, mostly for blocking the entrance to the facility. A few were granted admittance to the building and were arrested for refusing to leave. The report states that there was no violence. Among those arrested were writers Murry Kempton and Grace Paley.  Also among the arrested was the wife of John C. Bennett who was President of the Union Theological Seminary.
